David B. Seder, MD is a neurological and pulmonary intensivist and researcher who serves as Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, and the Suzie Konkel and Jamie Konkel Endowed Chair of Critical Care Services at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Seder is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurocritical Care. He completed medical training at the University of New Mexico, Maine Medical Center, and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr. Seder has worked at MaineHealth since 2001, where he directed the Neurological ICU from 2008-2017, and has served as Chairman of Critical Care Services since 2017.
Dr. Seder leads a research group focused on improving the clinical outcomes of cardiac arrest and stroke by targeting both clinical causes of secondary brain injury, and the molecular mechanisms of disease. He was co-PI of a large international trial of tracheostomy timing after severe stroke (SETPOINT2), and runs a translational science laboratory studying immune function and the resolution of inflammation after cardiac arrest. He has published and lectured widely on these and other topics, and has co-authored clinical practice guidelines for the Neurocritical Care Society, American Heart Association, and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. He receives research funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Dr. Seder is a partner of Chest Medicine Associates, and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Medicine, Neurocritical Care Society, and American Heart Association. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Neurocritical Care Society, and is designated a Master Educator by the MaineHealth Institute of Teaching Excellence.
